The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced the first case human case of West Nile virus and the first animal case of EEE in the state this year.
Officials said the person is a man in his forties who was exposed in Hampden County.
The EEE infection was diagnosed in a horse in Plymouth.

According to officials, mosquito samples collected in Dedham also tested positive for EEE.
Officials have raised the EEE risk level to high in Plymouth.
Carver and Middleborough are also currently at high risk.
